Courses User Magic Links (Labs Release) + Password Reset Flow and New Email Templates

What’s New?

Flexibility in Password Management

Set Your Own Password: Users will now have the flexibility to set their own passwords, eliminating the need for automated password generation.
Magic Links for Secure Login: User-specific Magic Links will be sent across all course emails and triggers to ensure users can easily set their passwords.
Seamless Redirection: Users attempting to log in without setting a password will be redirected to the Set Password page.

Template and Field Updates

Deprecated Password Fields: The password field will be deprecated across all templates. Even if the password custom field is added to the templates, it will not be populated.
New loginUrl Custom Field: We are introducing the loginUrl custom field across all our triggers and email builders for courses. Users should append this in their template to ensure they receive the magic link.
Removal of Password Custom Field: The Password custom field is now removed across all the builders.

Important Notes

Activating the Courses User Magic Links Feature

System-Generated Passwords Disabled: Once this feature is turned on, no more system-generated passwords will be provided for users.
Update Existing Templates: Password fields in existing templates will not be populated. Users should use the loginUrl to set their passwords.
New Default Email Templates: New default email templates will be sent to users.

Changes Irrespective of Feature Flag

Removal of Password Custom Fields: Password custom fields will not be visible in all template builders and workflow email options. Users will also not be able to add password fields in new templates.
Magic Links in Emails: Magic links will be sent across all emails and triggers with the custom field loginUrl.

This feature will be live for everyone starting July 29, 2024. Post that, passwords will not be generated by the system. We suggest removing the password custom fields from all your older templates before this date.

Password Reset Flow

What’s New?

Self-Generated Passwords: No more system-generated passwords in your reset password emails. With the new reset link, users can set their own passwords within 2 hours of their request.
Auto Login: Users will be automatically logged in after resetting their password.
