Meta Pixel Improves Checkout Tracking and Payment Data

Meta Pixel now tracks checkout intent earlier and sends richer payment event data, helping you measure checkout drop-off and improve ad attribution.

SMBcrm has updated Meta Pixel tracking for funnels, websites, and stores with InitiateCheckout enabled. The update applies automatically, with no reconfiguration required.

InitiateCheckout now captures checkout intent before payment submission, while AddPaymentInfo sends more order and customer details to Meta.

When InitiateCheckout Fires

The trigger depends on where checkout happens and how the event is configured:

  • Store checkout pages: When the checkout page loads.
  • Pages with page-level InitiateCheckout enabled: When that page loads.
  • Other order forms: On the buyer’s first click, tap, or keystroke. This covers one-step, two-step, popup, and the new order form.
  • Funnel-, website-, or webinar-level settings: On the buyer’s first interaction with the order form.
  • Express wallets, such as Apple Pay: When payment starts if the buyer bypasses interaction with the form.

InitiateCheckout fires at most once per page visit, even if multiple forms or triggers are present. Browser autofill, password managers, and fields automatically focused on page load do not trigger it.

For buyers returning through an abandoned-cart link, the event waits for the saved cart to load so it includes the cart value and products.

More Complete AddPaymentInfo Data

AddPaymentInfo now includes the following details when available:

  • Order value and currency
  • Product IDs
  • Hashed customer email, phone, name, and external ID

These details help Meta match events to people and improve attribution and targeting. Events use a consistent currency for each order, and invalid or blank values are not sent.

Orders fully covered by a gift card now send AddPaymentInfo with a value of 0. Other free orders that require no payment details still do not send this event.

What This Means for Reporting

Previously, InitiateCheckout and AddPaymentInfo counted the same buyers. The revised timing lets you see buyers who begin checkout but leave before providing payment information. It also gives Meta checkout-intent signals for campaign optimization and audience building.

Expect InitiateCheckout counts to increase. The gap between InitiateCheckout and AddPaymentInfo or Purchase now reflects checkout drop-off. Account for this change when comparing reports, automated rules, or cost per InitiateCheckout before and after the update.

Page-level settings may take up to 24 hours to take effect on already-published pages. To apply them immediately, edit and save the page.

What Stays the Same

  • Existing Meta Pixel settings require no reconfiguration.
  • PageView, ViewContent, and Purchase keep their existing trigger timing.
  • Events continue to respect cookie consent. Nothing is sent if a visitor has not accepted advertising cookies.
  • When Conversions API is enabled, browser and server events continue to be sent together and deduplicated in Meta Events Manager.
  • Pixels without InitiateCheckout enabled are unchanged.
