Notify Followers and Opportunity Owners in Workflows
Internal Notification actions in SMBcrm automation workflows can now notify contact followers, opportunity followers, or both. The To User Type picker also includes Opportunity Owner as a recipient option.
What changed
A Notify followers section now appears below To User Type in the Internal Notification workflow action.
The follower options are additive, which means they notify followers in addition to the recipient selected above. When the action runs, SMBcrm resolves the followers and automatically deduplicates recipients.
How to use it
- Open an Internal Notification action in a workflow.
- Choose the existing To User Type recipient.
- Turn on Contact followers, Opportunity followers, or both.
Why it matters
Teams often collaborate on contacts and opportunities they do not own. This update helps lead generators, closers, advisors, renewal teams, and coverage teammates stay informed without manual mentions or extra workflow branches.
For example, a real estate team can keep To User Type set to Assigned User and turn on Contact followers so the lead generator, agent, and mortgage advisor following the contact are notified when the lead replies.
A sales team covering time off can turn on both Contact followers and Opportunity followers so the teammate following the record is notified when a form is submitted or an opportunity stage changes.
Additional notes
- Available for Email, In-App Notification, SMS, and WhatsApp.
- Contact follower and opportunity follower toggles are independent and can be used together.
- Duplicate recipients are automatically deduplicated when the action runs.
- Opportunity followers are skipped if no opportunity is in scope or the opportunity was deleted. The selected To User Type recipient still receives the notification.
- Followers without the required channel address are skipped for that notification type.
- Existing Internal Notification actions are unchanged.
