Router Runs Every Matching Workflow Branch

The new Router action sends contacts through every matching workflow branch, in the order you choose, with test results showing which conditions passed.

The new Router action in SMBcrm workflows sends a contact through every branch whose conditions match. Unlike If/Else, which stops at the first matching branch, Router checks every branch and runs each match sequentially, from left to right.

Three Branch Types

  • Custom rules: Runs only when the branch conditions match.
  • Always run: Runs for every contact, with no conditions.
  • Fallback: Runs only when no other branch matched.

For Custom rules, use Only continue if to select fields, choose operators, and add conditions or rule groups. Add branches as needed, then drag them in the Branches list to control their execution order. Branches run one after another, not at the same time.

How to Use Router

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and open a workflow.
  2. Add the Router action.
  3. Open a branch and choose Custom rules, Always run, or Fallback.
  4. For Custom rules, set conditions under Only continue if.
  5. Select Add branch for each additional path, and optionally drag branches to change their order.
  6. Add the actions that should run inside each branch.
  7. Save the action, then use Test workflow to test it on a real event.
  8. Review the results, then save and publish your workflow.

The test output shows whether each branch condition passed, along with the reason and the contact’s actual value.

Example: Route One Lead to Multiple Teams

A home services form lets leads select HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, or Carpentry. A Router can include separate custom-rule branches for HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical, plus a Fallback branch for leads that match none of those services.

If a lead selects HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical, all three matching branches run. Each branch can perform its own next steps, such as adding a note, sending an internal notification, applying a tag, or creating a task. With If/Else, only the first matching branch would run.

Router keeps these paths in one workflow, reducing the need to duplicate logic to handle additional matches.
