Managed Agents Can Delegate Tasks to Subagents

Managed Agents can now delegate focused tasks to subagents, run independent work in parallel, and show execution details within the parent agent's run.

Managed Agents in SMBcrm can now break complex work into smaller tasks and delegate them to specialized subagents. The main agent coordinates the work, reviews results, and delivers the final response. Independent tasks can run in parallel to reduce execution time.

How Subagents Work

The AI Builder determines when subagents are needed based on your instructions. Each subagent receives the tools and information required for its assigned responsibility.

Subagents use smaller, task-specific context, with lightweight models handling focused work while the main agent manages planning and reasoning. This helps reduce execution costs for complex workflows. Subagent usage is included in the parent agent’s run billing.

Visibility and Controls

Select View subagent activity to inspect delegated tasks, execution steps, results, and changes. You can also monitor execution through Activity and Agent Logs.

Execution controls include:

  • Subagents receive only the tools and permissions needed for their tasks.
  • Read-only tasks cannot modify records.
  • The main agent reviews customer messages generated by subagents before sending them.
  • Existing app connections are securely shared within the agent’s execution.

How to Use Subagents

  1. Go to AI Agents → Agent Studio → Managed.
  2. Create or open a Managed Agent and describe the task in natural language.
  3. Let the AI Builder determine whether subagents are needed and configure them. You can also ask it to “Split this task into subagents” or “Add a subagent to handle calendar operations.”
  4. Run the agent and select View subagent activity to review execution.

No additional configuration is required to start using subagents. They are supported in chat, triggers, scheduled executions, follow-ups, and API runs, and work with existing knowledge bases, memory, and custom values.

Example: Follow Up on Inactive Opportunities

You could ask a Managed Agent to identify opportunities every Monday that have not progressed in 14 days, review recent conversations, and create follow-up tasks for the assigned owners.

The agent can delegate opportunity identification, conversation review, and follow-up task creation to separate subagents, then provide a consolidated summary.
