OpenRouter AI Integration Now Available in Workflows
SMBcrm has integrated OpenRouter into Workflows, enabling you to invoke AI models and incorporate their responses directly into your automations. This capability lets your team generate text content from prompts and reuse the output across subsequent workflow steps.
How the Generate Response Action Works
The new workflow action accepts three main configurations:
- System Prompt (Optional) - Sets the role and behavior of the AI model
- Prompt (Required) - The main instruction, supporting workflow variables for personalization
- Model Selection (Required) - Choose from OpenRouter’s available AI models
The action includes a Test Action feature so you can validate your prompt and confirm the output before the workflow runs live. You can also validate response schemas for downstream use.
Practical Use Cases
- Draft contextual customer responses using contact details and conversation history
- Summarize form submissions or lengthy conversations into concise notes
- Generate personalized follow-ups incorporating workflow variables like names, appointment details, and past interactions
How to Set It Up
- Open Workflows and search for OpenRouter
- Click Connect Now and authenticate with your OpenRouter API key
- Configure the model selection, system prompt, and prompt fields
- Use Test Action to validate the output
- Map the AI response into messages, custom fields, conditions, or downstream actions
Pricing
OpenRouter actions are classified as premium workflow actions and billed at standard automation rates. OpenRouter model usage is billed separately through OpenRouter’s own pricing structure.
